When a Portland distiller House Spirits sold off their Aviation Gin brand to a New York marketing firm Davos, little did they know that Ryan Reynolds would become a significant investor in the company. In February 2018, Ryan invested in and bought a majority stake in the craft gin company and became the owner and chairman.
“About a year ago, I tried Aviation for the first time. Since that day, I’ve spent my time finding some way to infiltrate the company,” the Deadpool star told Forbes via e-mail. “I did this for one simple reason: It’s the best damn gin on the planet.”
Aviation is a small, growing player in an otherwise static gin market. The Portland, Oregon-produced alcohol shifted an estimated 15,000 cases in 2016, according to Beverage Marketing Corporation’s DrinkTell database. As a significant owner, Ryan sits on Aviation’s board and serves as creative director for the brand. Coincidentally House Spirits, is part-owned by NFL great Joe Montana.
